We've confirmed with trusted sources that the
black Xbox 360 is indeed coming (the image above is of the original 360 dev kit, FYI), and will be dubbed the Xbox 360 Elite. Here's what you need to know about it:
- The Elite will be limited quantities only; that may be as much or as little as a couple hundred thousand.
- The case, controller, and Live headset will all be black. It will have all new packaging.
- Elite will cost $479, and will be a 3rd SKU; it will be sold alongside Premium and Core packs.
- Eventually Elite hardware (in white plastics) will take the role of the Xbox Premium. That is to say, after the Elite is launched and sold out, future Xbox Premiums will have 120GB / HDMI.
- We do not yet know exactly when 120GB / HDMI will become the standard for Premium, but it is loosely estimated to be late summer or fall.
- Elite models run cooler than normal 360s, but they are not yet confirmed to have 65nm chips.
- Prices may remain the same with the 120GB / HDMI hardware upgrade in the Premium Xbox, but we may still see a price cut on the line when 65nm chips start shipping.
- The HD DVD drive will not be internal or bundled -- Microsoft never did or nor does not currently have plans to put an HD DVD drive in the 360.
- There are no current plans to integrate WiFi into the Elite or future Premiums (although that can always change).
On that note, I can't wait for the "Super Deluxe Limited Edition Tony Hawk XBox 360" to drop somewhere in the next few months -- featuring a laser-etched Tony Hawk signature, a free copy of whatever his latest shitty clone game may be, and an extra 10GB of storage space, all for just $700.
ps3 is better hardware wise, but the games do not compare to xbox
for the arguemnt between mac VS windows, why would anyone say that windows is better than pc?? Although i have 3 desktops and 3 Notebooks with windows xp,i know that mac is better. Windows is good for 2 things, application compatibility, and user friendly GUI.
The windows vista for now is a great dissapointment, it does slow down a computer even greater when upgrading from windows xp. You would need a powerful machine to run vista smoothly. But, In terms of games running off of Vista, i cant wait to see what DX10 offers in the future, as well as new GPU cards that come out. The great thing about PC is that you can upgrade to greater power than consoles. You can spend over $1000 on graphics alone. Console is convenient, compact, and with its competition, it will only get better.
And i dont think the console war is over, its only begining. I dont want to argue with what console has more power and what graphics looks best now. I just know that deep down, PS3 has greater potential that the dev has yet to unleash.
Just like multicore processors, multi-core processors are better used today and in the future than 2 years ago. Before, it was 1 software using 1 core, now we have more and more multi-threaded software using both core to its potential.
Becuase money is an issue no matter what, blu ray is a big thing. Not only does it do HD movies out the box, eventually, they can develop a ps3 game that will last 2 of the xbox games, or even more. Ps3 can have a 1 game that Cost $60, and have as much gameplay as Halo 1, 2 and 3 put together. If they choose to do this, it is up to them, but the fact is, they can.
I know people that have the 360 premium, and they all want the PS3, but just cant afford it yet. They all agree the Elite is nice, but not for the price, and not if they already have a 360. Although they love their 360 purchase, they just wish they would've waitd for the ps3. And i have 1 friend that wont pay $50 for online gaming and hates the fact that he cant play online. Everyone else i know do pay for xbox Live but would trade in free PSN for their Live Gold.
And as of a couple days ago, 4 usb for ps3 was not enough, i cant believe xbox only has 2, as the one in the rear is for wifi.
No need for the PS3 now.
Hmm. So my refurb 360 froze twice yesterday for no reason..... Lame. Its a conspiracy...
Sweet, Ill consider this if I have the funds lying around and sell my current one assuming it still works.
Game Informer Magazine has already said that this is an April Fools joke. Sorry everyone. This may happen enentually but not any time soon
Unless you want Blu-ray instead of HD-DUD and Sony's free online service and the PS3 exclusive games and to run Linux on it for free and to have a console that doesn't sound like a jet airplane and.. and... and... and...
Care to revise or amplify your statement Mr. Gates?
@walk2k's reply:
True, I can't wait to get Assassin's Creed, exclusive on the PS3. Oh wait, it's not exclusive anymore. Oh, I can't wait to get Devil May Cry 4... wait that's not exclusive any more either. Developers want to make money to stay in business and developing for the 360 then porting to the PoS3 is easier and less time consuming. So 'exclusive' in terms of PoS3 games could very well become a term for 'games developed and published by Sony', whereas true exclusive games you'll find on the 360, which I own and don't see any other reason to own a PoS3.
...april fools?
I've seen this all over the place (most saying it woudl be out in april) and not that I doubt it wouldnt eventually happen but I would have seen it at least 56493654368613763178657 times when signing into xbox live by now.
yoo check this site out for more proof!!!
http://thexboxdomain.net/2007/03/26/xbox-elite-confirmation/
weird, i didn't know the elite does blu-ray, Matt??
yeah, really no need for a ps3. wait...hold on, your joking right, cause the lowest priced blu-ray stand alone is the same price or more than a 20gb ps3. hmmm, kind of a good deal to get a ps3 then in addition to the elite.
format wars do not exist. they will both be replaced in a few years by something completely better so don't even go there. buy both.
Well HDMI seems like a waste since 1080p can be broadcast over component and almost all TVs except for DLP end up turning the signal back into analog right near the end.
I have a 360Premium and am going to get the new premium when they get rid of the elite. After all the black doesnt match my home theater set up.
Wow, that thing is sweet looking.
I was holding out on getting one because my brother in law had one I could use, but this thing is sexy! Very naice!
- Josh
Where's your head at? - http://www.StateOfBrain.com
Lol, it looks exactly like the Elite hardware in white, only it's black plastics, what makes this one 'sweet?'.
let's summarize, hardware wise
advantage Xbox Elite:
bigger harddrive
20 dollars less
Advantage Sony PS2 20GB:
Blu-Ray Player
Let the console war continue!
Anyone else think they missed out on a real demographic-nailing marketing opportunity by not calling this thing the "360 1337"?
xbox live 50$
playstation network: free
let the console wars continue!
You forgot
*built-in wireless
*bluetooth connectivity for keyboards, mice, and headsets
*the ability to use ANY SATA 2.5-inch drive
*the use of any USB camera (not just one camera that's overpriced,)
*Free online
*Home
*Support for USB Keyboards and Mice
me thinks this doth reek of april fools
Me thinks you doth protest too much.
so it is true! black xbox's have bigger HHDs!
well i can not afford this one either!
I don't know if it's a sign, but if MS is unwilling to put a HD-DVD in their box, do they know something we don't?
They have no use for an HD-DVD drive. Its designed for movie watching and nothing more. Maybe when they run out of space or compression techniques we'll see them use a next gen optical format or even better digital distribution.
I dont think MS want a 600$+ system out there
My understanding is that current HD-DVD drives read more slowly than the standard DVD drives they use now, so you would in fact take a performance hit in terms of load times and such.
I don't think they know anything, I think that they're worried if HD-DVD were to "lose" the format war, The other companies invested in the technology could pull out without taking too much of a loss -- however, Microsoft including a "dead" technology in their hardware would mean that they have to ALSO take on the task of producing HD-DVDs, just to support their tech. Sony took a huge risk by including Blu-ray in their console, and if the market were to suddenly explode with support for HD-DVD, they could definitely take an incredible loss. Microsoft is just playing it safe. To accuse them of "knowing something" or not supporting their product is stupid, because that isn't the case at all.
I guess the terminology I'm going for is "Looking before you leap."
I guess they know something you don't know.
1. They don't want their console to cost as much as or more than a PS3.
2. They would be discriminating against all the people who already have Xbox 360's, they can't force an update on users, and then they would have to say "Oh! You bought it in the first year and a half? You can't play any new games unless you spend another $200 on this."
3. The technology was a bit more expensive and probably not as readily available on and before November 2005, it would have taken them even longer to get all of those consoles out the door and on the shelves, it probably would have delayed the launch.
Um only reason MS wont put the HD DVD Drive into the xbox elite or future premiums is because HD DVD drive cant play the 360 games nor the regular xbox games. but if it was capable of playing 360 games then by all means there wouldn't be a elite system coming out to make the console wars even more hectic.
on that note, i will be trying to sell my premium system somewhere and buy the elite.
Very intersting. Though the SKU strategy seems reather confusing...
Michael
Always a good reason to hold out. If only the gaming division of Microsoft can rub off on the rest of the company. I plan to be an owner of this and a wii of course. As far as PS3 goes I just don't see the value. If I need a blu ray player I'll just buy a standalone.
i just wish that microsoft would modify current premium 360s with the new hdmi hardware....id gladly wait for my system
Well, everyone else sees the value. It costs like $200 less than any other Blu-Ray player currently on the market and plays movies just as well as or better than the other players... oh, and the features are updatable.
If you were goin to buy a blue ray player u might as well as buy a PS3. The 60GB PS3 is $400 less then a normal blue ray player and they both offer the same feature when coming down the watching movies. And also you will be getting another consele and nothing is wrong with that.
P.S. i read ur comment on the Xbox 360 Elite and thought to spread my wisdom.lol.
The PS3 is still a better choice in my opinion. You get a Blu-Ray drive, a better controller, better games, and you don't have to wait for this thing to come out.
Better controller? (ummm besides the motion sensing that sony stole from nintendo, how's this better?)
Don't have to wait for it to come out? (as opposed to the ps3 where you have to wait until you have enough money?)
Blu-ray (is that the standard now? last i heard, it was still up in the air.)
Better games - god of war is the only thing ps3 has going for it right now.
Europe's still waiting. (Admittedly, only until Friday.)
The Blu-Ray adds zero value for me or for most gamers, what it does add is a ton to the purchase price.
Better controllers is a matter of opinion.
Better games? The XBOX 360 has a ton more games including several 2nd generation games, it will take a year at least for the PS3 to catch up to where the 360 is now.
A better controller?
PS3 controller doesn't have any feedback and the 360 controller is better setup.
Just talk to most of the game developers about games that are being made for the PS3. They are just 360 games that are then ported to the PS3. This means that they are better on the 360 anyway.
The PS3 is still a better choice in my opinion. You get a Blu-Ray drive, a better controller, better games, and you don't have to wait for this thing to come out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
blue-ray ain't nothing hd-dvd is my option to buy if i want not force to pay for it. better controller? wow this technology has been around since 97. what's so great about tilting where it's more precise using the joyticks. now, better games? what better games? microsoft has always had the better of the two systems. only advantage sony had was there exclusive which microsoft is taking away. Also just to finish you off, Take-two the company behind Grand Theft Auto is going to be bought out by Microsoft. Sweet dreamz little boy.
a better controller??? thats a matter of opinion! i still like dual shocks - but in todays day and age a controller that has no rumble feature seems completely retarded - ecspecially since the only reason sony gives for this is the issues it would create with their half-assed motion controller. Do any games even use that feature as anything other than a short-lived novelty??
You've done an excellent job stating your opinions as facts.
dude, the ps3 controler doesnt even rumble.
PS3 better than XBOX360?
1-Blu ray...Everyone(including major motion picture production companies)knows HD is better period. Not going into specifics between them, your curious...you look it up.
2-Controller,Sonys' better but the 360 is much more improved and smaller than original unit of 2001.
3-I give PS3 an edge only because it has a faster processor(only by 50 mhz)other than that...overall the 360 has more and better games,3 core processor...better overall.I can still hook up camera,mp3 and a shit load of gagets,PS3 oviously can do more but do you really need all those etra ports to hook everything?LOL,Pretty soon you'll be hooking up your pecker too...lmao.You got blu ray...LOL,WOW...Like theres a whole lot of dvd blu ray pics and vids with that format.Plus your paying(paid more) for a format thats just not proven in the market and even Sony can't claim that! They are gambling big time.So far,not too many are buying it.
4-I'm getting me the new Black Xbox 360...god shes a beaut.
Ohh yeah Gears of war...over 3 mil sold...Graw well over 1 1/2 sold...graw2...lets see after its third month.God of war...great game...never will pass the 3 mil sold mark!
Hey don't get me wrong...PS3 Is the best unit sony has come up with so far.
But Microsoft is not too far behind from taking over the gameing industry that Japan has so long enjoyed.
Better games? Not at present my friend. What are you smoking? ;) Don't get me wrong, I still have high hopes for cellular processing and I'm not a big fan of Microsoft (and the way they cut corners, ever worshipping at the feet of the almighty bottom-line), but I'm not impressed with Sony's offerings so far. They need to lower the price before I'll consider it.
dear kev... i was once dumb like u... until i heard from a friend that devil may cry 4 aka the best ps3 has to offer, is also coming out on xbox... that was all i needed... that and the ninja gaiden sequel and darkness... its over for ps3 and its precious bluray...
Dear taRik, I'm not an immature dork who's obsessed with anime, so I don't give a damn about you and your stupid japanese show for 3 year old games.
not to mention the ps3 controller is crap...they havent changed it in years!!!!!!!!!! the 360's feels sooooo goooooooood, seriously though, fits like a glove! :)
I disagree, the PS3 controller allows more airflow, and it's smaller, lighter, and easier to handle for people with larger or smaller hands. The Xbox controller is made for Americans with massive, fat hands.
so true XD
I doubt it will happen, but I definitely would consider upgrading from my current premium 360 to this one if there was some sort of upgrade program. I would be perfectly willing to send in my 360 with 50-80 dollars to get back one with HDMI and a 120GB HDD.
I have to admit first that I own a PS3.
but I do believe Microsoft has missed their demographic with this one. A lot of people are turned OFF by Sony because the price of PS3, what Microsoft need to do is to get their product closers to PS2's price, that's what will hurt Sony (due to PS3's cost, they can't lower their price anytime soon)
if Xbox can lower their two SKU by about 50-100 dollars, that will really KILL sony, but by increasing the SKU, they are playing into Sony's "higher, hardcore" gamer category.
I think that's probably one of the most intelligent things said in a forum in some time. Let's not forget that when the holidays were over, the top selling console was the PS2 thanks largely (if not solely) for it's ~$119 price.
This would be perfect with HD DVD. I defirnetly think not including that is a mistake. That would make it Elite.
Calling it "360 1337" would not make sense for the masses.
M
You folks missed the MOST important part!
Where do I actually get one once they're released? Will I have to *shudder* place a pre order with EB?
sadly...that's what I'm assuming... :(
not intrigrating wifi is insane
lol when they intrigrate wifi, you'll be the first to know.
so for 20 bucks less than a PS3 you get much less. Sounds retarded to me since HDMI shouldnt cost anything and the bigger HDD should be a few bucks. Plus no next gen drive, MS is just increasing profits.
seeing as how integrating wifi would cost about 5 bucks in a wholesale scale production and give this thing another desireable feature, I've got to say that I agree it's a mistake not to include it.
If this thing is totally silent, we'll see.
but without xbox media center (all the codec support) and an HD player built in, I'm still on the fence.
i'm pretty sure that picture was labeled a photoshop like 5+ months ago.
I own a 360, and i dont want to upgrade, but i do want a bigger HDD. But if i buy a bigger one when they come out how will i be able to transfer whats on my current one to the new one?
Kev50027: If you can say that the PS3 controller is better than you've obviously never played a 360. I'd take rumble over tilt crap anyday. Consoles are about playing games and if you look at what the 360 offers it OWNS the PS3. Ace Combat 6 anybody?? PS3 is an over-glorified Blu-Ray player that can also play some games. The 360 is a game machine that can also play HD movies if you like.. This isn't a fanboy rant but the truth. I still don't know how I feel about this as a supporter of the 360. MS keeps telling us HDMI isn't important, so like a knucklehead I buy 2 360's and now they go and do this.. The only possible way I would even think about getting this is if it has the 65nm chip in it and has built-in WiFi.
Oh no, you're not a fanboy at all unless you consider all that bullshit you just spewed about the Xbox 360 being better in every way than anything else in the world.
I have played the 360, and I was VERY underwhelmed. Not only is the controller still massive and feels like a lump of lard in my hands, but the buttons are still bulgy and the analog sticks are still in their odd one higher than the other set up that frustrates me to no end.
I don't have a PS3 yet, but I've played one for many hours and plan on getting one. I have the money now, but I'm in college, and if I got a PS3 now, I would never do homework again.
In all honesty, the best controller is a keyboard and mouse for any non-racing games, and for racing games I have my PSP.
So stop spewing crap about the Xbox 360 being the best then claim you're unbiased, razer.
I love Rumble, with GT4 being a racing nut and
I was thinking the same thing until i played motorstorm steering with the six_axis and i like it, plus the 7 bluetooth controller ports allow for an isolated rumble system i would imagine.
If MS thinks that HDMI isn't that important, then why the heck did they
include it in the Elite then? Because it's been the future for a few
years now,wake up MS.
i agree 360 does own the ps3 ..i hate the ps3..xbox has more games...it looks better..i i think the graphics r better in my oppinion!!!
Umm, the 360 is for people who don't know about power. The PS3 is a programming paradise with it's Cell processor. The PS3 brutally destroys the 360 in raw processing and graphics power. I believe (but I'm not sure) it also has dedicated video RAM, unlike the 360's shared 512 MB, which is puny nowadays. I mean, my ThinkPad 770 from 1997 has 512 MB of RAM. The PS3 is super cheap for what you get. Blu-Ray players are really expensive, and it's a perfect way for programmers to get their hands on a Cell processor. It's not an amazing system, the 360. Just a dumbed down computer that MS is throwing at you.
yo u idiots ps3 has much batter graphics and bigger games better online u dont even has to use tilt xbox 360 is well a last generation console there is nothing new about it
plz reply
Didn't you read? That's a stock photo of the dev kit, it's just a stand in.
Gee...wasn't it Micro$haft that verbally assaulted SONY for using HDMI? Microsoft said something along the lines of "worthless, not needed, etc." and now they are putting HDMI on their systems...hmmm...
SONY > NINTENDO > MICRO$HAFT
It's unbelievable how unorganized and unplanned Microsoft's video game division is. Bill Gates needs to clean house on the team who rushed out the XBox360. They set themselves back about 3 years by rushing an early launch date just to beat the PS3 launch date. All that rushing around for nothing! Now they have, not one, but two obsolete systems. One in white and one in black. Dear Microsoft, Please release a system with HDMI 1.3, a BD drive or HD-DVD drive (just pick one already and install it!), a super fast processor and WiFi. My PS3 was a bargain at 599! I'm gonna be well past that mark by the time a full HD-XBox is released. The release of a Fully equipped HD-XBox is inevitable! Just Do It Already!!!
im not believin nothin till MS confirms it publicly! happy april fools day everyone!
photoshop
Could this be a sign that they're not selling as well as they thought they would?
120 GB for HD is nothing, the desktop I'm on now has 1.15 Terabytes.
that's good for your desktop, but we're speaking about a console, where 1.15 tb is not needed.
Why are they being stupid about the wireless? It's stupid not to integrate it.
So will the price of this go down to $399 when the Elite are gone? Thats a terrible move if they get rid of the $399 price point and are left with the core at $299...
Motion sensing has been around for long before the Wii came out, and it was even used for games long before the Wii was around. Seriously, Nintendo didn't invent anything with the Wii, and it's not as "original" as anyone assumes.
As far as the controller, yes, a PS2/3 controller fits into my hands a lot better than the fat, oversized Xbox 360 controller. Plus it feels more sturdy, and it's lighter, and the analog sticks are symmetrical.
Stop complaining about the PS3 being a lot of money. You get what you pay for. If you pay for a shitty Ford, you get a piece of junk. If you save up for a BMW, you get an awesome car. The PS3 isn't for poor people, so if you can't afford it, don't buy it, but don't complain that you can't afford it, that's not my fault.
Blu-Ray is on the rise. All of the studios are currently releasing Blu-Ray movies, and the PS3 has sold so well that it's practically over. Now we just have to wait for the HD-DVD spec to die out, but I'm fairly confident that Blu-Ray will win this battle, and I was rooting for it years ago when it was announced.
Game wise, the Xbox 360 is doing alright, but its lack of backwards compatability with soo many great Xbox games makes it s failure. When I get a new console, I would rather be able to play my old games than have to spend 60 bucks on top of the price of the console. The only Xbox game I have (out of about 40) that works on the 360 is Halo 2, which is a lame game anyway.
God of War 2 plays just fine on my PS2...so I'm not sure how that gives the PS3 anything...
Bring it.
IPTV in black.
I wonder if
runs cooler = quieter?
At least a quieter DVD drive would be a fine move.
>So will the price of this go down to $399 when the Elite are gone? Thats a terrible move if they get rid of the $399 price point and are left with the core at $299...
I beleive from what I read.. they will have all three for now.
but when Elite sells out, they will make the Primum with Elite spec??? so, if that's true, if you buy Elite now, you're basically paying 80 bucks more to get it in black??
Correct me here.
I thought Sony blew it with the PS3, but now that I have a HDTV, I can't see paying that much money for an XBOX 360 Elite, when for $20 more I can get a comparable console with a BluRay player. The BluRay player is the clincher. I thought the XBOX 360 was supposed to have a HD DVD player built-in?
In the War of the Game Consoles, Microsoft looks like it will only be the leader in wasting time and money. They lost a reported 4 Billion dollars on the original XBox and it looks like they are following suit with the 360. What they should have done was release the 360 with HDMI & internal HD-DVD or Blu-ray player from day 1. Even if Microsoft adds HDMI to the 360, they still need to release at least one more system that is equipped with an internal HD drive, whether it be HD-DVD or Blu-ray. Microsoft lacks the Vision nessessary to win the gaming War. Because of Microsoft's major 360 blunder, it seems to me that Sony's PS3 will completely own the High Definition gaming and movie industry by Q2 2008.
Yeah, I understand. Luckily for you, you've already had time to see how things pan out before making a decision on which console to chose (if you do chose one). Lots of people in the US just picked one out, and now they're trying to defend their choice to the death. I got neither, but I'm watching things develop carefully.
"Yeah, I understand. Luckily for you, you've already had time to see how things pan out before making a decision on which console to chose."
Actually Europe is just getting one PS3, the bigger, badder, better one with the 60GB, WiFi, HDMI, and the camera ports etc. so there's not a choice, but in a way it's just as well because if you're gonna spend 500 you may as well spend 600 cause you're getting a lot more for your money. I know it's a crazy amount of money, but if you got lots you'll get one, or if you don't it will come down. I'm not getting one (a PS3) but I do think it was a good move that Sony only brought one to Europe, and in all honesty I think they should kill off the smaller, under-featured one completely. If you want a PS3 in Europe and you've got €600, get one; if you want and you don't have €600, either save up or wait for the price to come down. Either way I'm sure with no choice there will be less people with regrets in the end.
This thing has GOT to have some other feature. $80 extra for HDMI and a bigger hard drive, when the 360 is long overdue for a price drop? Sure people in the market for a premium will consider it, but $80 extra for the HDMI output it should already have and a bigger hard drive? Add WiFi and it will at least start to match up well to PS3, otherwise you're just looking at 96% of the PS3 price, losing BluRay, and getting more hard drive space.
I do believe that they won't ever add HD DVD in the box, as we are all seeing from the recent sales numbers (check out dvd empire's comparison, this week HD sales are 75% BluRay, and have been climbing steadily) that the format won't be around for long.
I think it's also fair to anticipate that the 60gb PS3 model will drop to $500 soon, with the 20gb phased out by retailers and this model 360 available it only makes sense. Once that happens, and people can get a PS3 with WiFi, HDMI and BluRay all built in $480 for a 360 seems WAY too high.
Of course this is TRUE. M$ has to make a new 360, with the new chips inside, because the original ones are defective. This will help soften the blow when M$ has to recall all the 360's due to being defective, after the class action lawsuits are over. I am on my 3rd original 360, and everyone I know has had hardware failure at least once.
WOW, that's alot of money for something that will break down in a few weeks/months...
I already have a 360 but when it comes out in White and has the 65nm chips I'm sold.
The Author mentions "trusted sources". He might as well just change the title of the article to "Here is this year's April Fools Joke."
"the image above is of the original 360 dev kit, FYI"
wrong. its a photoshop from a txb user from like a year ago. 1 dev kits have a larger hdd enclosure, 2 there has never been a black 360 controller.
It is sort of funny of people saying that the 360 is a better deal (This one).
If we add on the HD-DVD Drive (semantically the equivalent to Blu-Ray, the 360 is a whopping 679 dollars, add on xbox live, it is well over 700 dollars. So generally, if you match feature for feature, the PS3 is a much better buy. Only a fanboy would disagree with that. I am not saying which is better, that is a matter of opinion, I am saying which is cheaper.
1. Most people WON'T get the HD-DVD drive, or use their PS3 to play Blu-Ray movies. At least MS gives you the choice as to whether to pay for the HD-DVD drivem Sony shoves Blu-Ray down your throat whether you like it or not.
2. After this limited edition "elite" edition is gone, the regular non-core XBOX will get this hardware and stay at the current $400 price point, add in the optional HD-DVD and you are at the same price point as the PS3 only with a hard drive that's twice as big.
Don't worry, you can still fork over the $600 and do your homework...unless you watch DVD's all day because you sure won't be playing many games with the selection they have out for the overpriced PS3. And if you think the Xbox controllers are big and clunky, you must have small girly hands because I haven't seen a complaint about those since the very first Xbox controller came out.
Just like all the graphs say, the PS3 won't see a big increase until 2008 due to the lack of knowledge of Blu-Ray format. By that time the price should have dropped. If you are going to play games, the Xbox is a winner. If you want a multimedia machine, the PS3 wins as more powerful but Xbox can do multimedia just as well.
"the analog sticks are still in their odd one higher than the other set up that frustrates me to no end."
That's because you are an idiot, and will soon die out because you fail to adapt to change.
"but I'm in college, and if I got a PS3 now, I would never do homework again." I don't think it matters, because no one here cares about your personal life.
Take your rabid fanboyism elsewhere.
i must say i agree with the dissing of the 360 controller, it's far too bulky, the "one higher then the other" joystick layout did my head in when i've played COD3 on a mate's 360 i had to put the controller down. (I'm not a sony fanboy, i'll freely admit that PGR3 and Halo2 are great games (from watching my mate play them and through limited play by myself). I have a PS2 and prob will be getting a PS3 when it comes out in europe, what can i say? i love the graphics, the controller is as close a damnit to the PS2 controller which just feels natural to me at this stage, the console looks sleek and the prospect of playing/watching blueray games/movies just makes my mouth water.
I find the 360 controllers allmost too small, it dissapears in my hands..!
Except from that, its sweet :)
That's not the dev kit. The dev kits were dark grey, not black, and had a big ol' connection block on top (making them about 4" taller than normal xbox 360s), all of which are missing in that photo. Additionally, all present dev-kits now come in xbox 360 white.
Why would you buy a next gen console to play old games? What sense does that make? I never understood that argument. "Game wise, the Xbox 360 is doing alright.." What? The Xbox 360 has won the next gen war. It will continue to outsell the PS3 each month and because of the 360 install base, developers will continue to make exclusive games and formerly exclusive Sony franchises will continue to jump ship due to the PS3's failure.
